Food!

Food!

Oops haven’t updated in awhile. Here, have a food post! The camera has been within reach lately, so I’ve actually remembered to take photos before I gobble things up.

First, here’s the breakfast I’ve been eating for at least the past 2 weeks. I haven’t gotten sick of it yet, it is pretty delicious. Quinoa, arame seaweed, sardines, and green tea.

And my dinner tonight was this lovely soup composed of somen noodles, shitake mushrooms, crumbled tofu, and wild leeks. The broth was homemade turkey infused with ginger, soy sauce, garlic, hot peppers, lime juice and zest.

Lady Gaga Blythe Custom is finished!

Lady Gaga Blythe Custom is finished!

Phew! Only took me what…2 years? I don’t even remember. Anyway, I will be putting her up on ebay on March 21, and it will finish on March 28, Lady Gaga’s birthday! Some of the proceeds will be going to her charity, BTWF. I hope it does well so I can give as much money as I can!

P.S. – there are a few more photos available in the blythe doll gallery. Check it out!

Trying something a little different

red panda

A friend’s birthday is coming up, so I decided to make her one of her favourite animals, a red panda! I am trying out a new doll style, and I think it turned out quite well! I think if I make any more felt animal dolls, they will be this style now.

On a partially-related note, I have plans to make really simple stuffed animals out of all the cool japanese cotton fabric I’ve acquired over the years (gotta do something with it, right?), but I haven’t gotten around to actually making any yet. I drafted the patterns, though. I think when I go buy some shank buttons for eyes, I’ll finally get that started.

Telephone -All Finished

Telephone -All Finished

Well, here is the finished piece!

Just a little piece for fun. It’s been hard for me to get into drawing original stuff, ever since I tried going to college for an art program (and dropped out less than a year later). It sort of killed it for me. That was…6 years ago, now. I didn’t drop out because I was bad at it, in fact I did pretty well in all my classes. It just wasn’t the right thing for me to do.

I am starting to feel an urge to draw my original characters again, and I think drawing all these lady gaga pictures has helped me get back into the mood. Sometimes drawing just for fun can be beneficial; doing a piece of art doesn’t always have to be “serious business”, I don’t think.

That’s all I have to say about that.

I feel like I have a lot of tiny projects going on that are all in various levels of completion. So what do I do? Go ahead and start a new one! Luckily though, I finish these portraits pretty quickly. This is a close-up of the one I’m working on right now. It will be big enough to be printed on 8.5×11″.

Anyway, onto the picture:

Something new I made today! I’m pretty excited about making these. I have several pages from old biology books with lovely mushroom & toadstool illustrations, so I am scanning them in, printing them out, carefully cutting them, and assembling them on pretty textured papers before putting them in 5 x 7″ frames. They are stuck on with foam tape to give them some nice shadows.
